This is a genre and artist I am otherwise not particularly intrigued by. But at 2:59 this song goes into a superb repetitious groove segment that transcends both. I have previously mentioned my fascination with repeating song segments, and this is another excellent showcase. It lasts from 2:59-4:21, first starting simple with just vocals and low-key strings, then a bass joins, and then drums and brass for a great crescendo.
In live versions she tries to sing the chorus in more varied ways, maybe in an attempt to make it more interesting and less monotonous. Thanks, I hate it.
She wrote the song on her boyfriends piano after they had a fight. Later on when she finished the song, she emailed it to him, which resulted in their breakup. Which I find hilarious.
